EUCONST

EUCONST is a Jean Monnet Chair ”The European Union’s fundamental values: Democracy, Rule of Law and Protection of Human Rights” funded by European Commission in the framework of the Erasmus+ program through international competition. The objectives of the Jean Monnet Chair  is to promote excellence in teaching and research in the field of the EU Constitutional Law, Human Rights Law in throughout the curricula proposed by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and ensure the dialogue on the fundamental values of the European integration.

The purpose of the BSU Jean Monnet Chair is promotion of teaching of the European Union’s core values in Georgia, concluded in an association agreement with the European Union, the strengthening of the protection of common European values, democracy and the rule of law, good governance, human rights and fundamental freedoms and Increasing the independence of the judiciary, access to justice and the right to a fair trial, personal data protection etc. The Jean Monnet Chair offers three new courses on constitutional law, human rights and the rule of law in the European Union. The specific objectives of the Jean Monnet Chair proposal are:

  • Promoting the idea of European integration and the dissemination of European values based on EU teaching, research and activities;
  • Development of three EU-related subjects, integration into the undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Shota Rustaveli State University in Batumi;
  • Initiate a dialogue on EU-Georgia related issues with stakeholders, students, academia, civil society, policymakers and other partners;
  • Promoting research and debate on the European Union, including through the publications of the Jean Monnet Chair;
  • Engaging young people (students, pupils, others) in the EU integration debate through annual conferences, public lectures and summer schools.
